SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Georgetown (Ky.) defeated Columbia (Mo.), 3-2, in the playoff round match to advance to the quarterfinals at the 2008 NAIA Volleyball National Championship. The Tigers will face the top-seed Fresno Pacific (Calif.) today at 3:45 p.m.
After dropping the first game, 22-25, Georgetown bounced back to take the next two, 25-23 and 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead. Columbia forced a game-five with a 25-21 win in game four. The Tigers erased six Columbia match points in the deciding game to capture an 18-16 victory.
Erica Janszen led Georgetown with 22 kills while Jessica Hoeh added 19 kills and Allie Bertke posted 13 kills. Hoeh also had 18 dig to the lead the Tigers. Amy Barmore added 15 digs while Bertke had 14 and Liz Goodin finished with 10 digs. Jenna Gronotte led the team with 57 assists.
Flavia Lino led the match with 30 kills for Columbia. Juliana Da Silva added 16 kills and nine digs. Tally Mattos had a match-high 27 digs and Luana Branco recorded 57 assists. The Cougars will end their season with a 41-5 overall record.
