SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Lubbock Christian (Texas) defeated No. 8 Azusa Pacific (Calif.), 3-1, in the playoff round match to advance to the quarterfinals at the 2008 NAIA Volleyball National Championship. The Lady Chaparrals will face No. 7 California Baptist today at 1 p.m.
LCU won the first two games, 26-24 and 25-20 to take 2-0 lead but dropped the third 25-21. The Lady Chaparrals bounced back to win 25-18 in game four.
Four players recorded double digits in kills for Lubbock Christian led by Elissa Loyns with 15. Kelsey Odell added 13 kills while Suzanne Childress and Katie McGuire each had 10 kills. Courtney Yonke led the match with 23 digs and Childress added 18 digs. Rachle Stuyvesant assisted on 51 kills for LCU.
Jill Baker led Azusa Pacific with 15 kills. Chelsea Daley and Megan Burch posted 10 kills each and Robin Portela added a team-high 18 digs. The Cougars will end their season with a 25-11 overall record.
