SIOUX CITY, Iowa – In the second semifinal match of the 2008 NAIA Volleyball National Championship Tournament, No. 3 Concordia (Calif.) defeated No. 2 Biola (Calif.), 3-0 (29-27, 25-17 and 25-22) at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa. Concordia will face No. 1 Fresno Pacific (Calif.) in the championship match.
Both team traded points the entire game-one before Concordia won 29-27. CU erased two Biola game points to capture the win and take a 1-0 lead in the match. Biola bounced back in game-two and took an early 7-3 lead but Concordia answered and scored five straight points to take an 8-7. CU kept the momentum and took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 game-two victory. Concordia advanced to the championship match with a 25-22 win in game-three.
Traci Weamer led CU with 15 kills and 15 digs while Amber Ridens added 11 kills. Chelsea Scott led the match with 20 digs and Serrina Russo posted 14 digs. Vanessa Perry and Jenna Friedrich each assisted on 20 kills. Concordia will improve its record to 21-5 and advance to the second national championship match in school history.
Jessica Guffum had a team-high 11 kills for Biola while Meghan Warkentin and Kelsey Christoferson added seven kills each. Buffun also added 10 digs. Biola will end its season with a 31-4 overall record.
The Championship match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena.
