DELAWARE, Ohio - The Cedarville University women and the Malone University men, both members of the American Mideast Conference and ranked No. 1 in their respective NAIA cross country polls, pulled off a rare NAIA sweep by winning the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships on Oct. 10.
The Lady Jackets became the first NAIA school to claim the 41-team event which includes all of Ohio's major colleges and universities. The Malone men repeated as champions in the 42-team field and won their eighth All-Ohio title overall.
The Cedarville women placed four runners in the top 20 as the first NAIA winner in the 28-year history of the meet. The Lady Jackets totaled 74 points to outscore runner-up Cincinnati, who finished with 96 points. The rest of the top five included Bowling Green, 128; Ohio, 132; and Dayton, 152.
Nicole Santos paced Cedarville by finishing 6th of 288 runners over the demanding layout. Her time for the 5,000 meters was 18:13.
Malone's Nik Schweikert was the individual champion with a winning time of 25:19 over the 8,000 meter course which is considered one of the most unforgiving layouts in cross country. The senior from Beavercreek, Ohio won the meet by 15 seconds in a field that included 280 competitors.
Malone totaled 68 points while Cincinnati was the runner-up with 84 points. Completing the top five were Ohio State, 101; Kent State, 121; and Ohio, 185.
