LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Simon Fraser University (B.C.) claimed its fourth consecutive NAIA women's cross country national championship while Virginia Intermont College claimed its third consecutive men's crown at the 2006 NAIA Cross Country National Championships held at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
Simon Fraser won its ninth women's title after besting Cedarville University (Ohio) 73-92 points. Genevieve Binsfield of Minot State University (N.D.) took home individual honors with a time of 17:38.2. For the fourth straight season, head coach Brit Townsend of Simon Fraser was named the Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Virginia Intermont won its third men's title with a team score of 67 points while Concordia University (Calif.) finished second with 136 points. Virginia Intermont was paced by David Cheromei who claimed individual medalist honors in a time of 24:05.15. The 2006 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year honors went to Scott Simmons of Virginia Intermont for the fifth straight season. This is the third season for Simmons at Virginia Intermont as he led Minot State to national championships in 2002 and 2003.
This year marks the fourth year that the NAIA Cross Country Championships have been held in Louisville, Kentucky.
The top 30 finishers in each meet are named All-American.
